DSC_8478Thirty six NASCAR K&N Pro Series East cars took the green flag in the Blue Ox 100 at Richmond International Raceway on Thursday with Eddie MacDonald in the unenviable 33rd starting position. When the checkered flag waved at the end of the 100 lap (75 miles) race the Grimm Construction Chevy scored an impressive fourth place finish.

“We needed that finish after the last couple of races,” said a very pleased driver. “We had a terrible qualifying attempt. The front of the car was hitting the track and it was smoking quite a bit. We had to start the race that way since the cars are impounded after qualifying.”

Grimes, IA – Brett Moffitt, driver of the #11 Don Valley North Toyota Scion Toyota for Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE), made his 50th career start at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL on Saturday night in the NAPA Auto Parts 150. He took the green flag on Saturday evening with a six point lead in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship point standings. By the time the checkered flag waved, Moffitt had extended his lead to nine points over his nearest competition.

The race teams arrived in Florida for the third race of the season a day early in order to participate in an open day of testing allowed by NASCAR prior to the inaugural NAPA Auto Parts 150. This was the first stop for the Series at the storied half mile asphalt raceway and the first stand-alone points race ever for the Series in the State of Florida. Teams were allowed to test the racing surface for the majority of the day, and the #11 HRE Toyota team, owned by Shigeaki Hattori and led by Crew Chief Dave McCarty, made good use of their opportunity to learn about track conditions. Five Flags is regarded as an “intermediate short track”, and its banked surface called for a somewhat different set up than the team had used the prior weekend at Greenville Pickens. Fine-tuning to compensate for those differences was the object of the open day of practice. Read Full Article →

Grimes, IA – Brett Moffitt, driver of the #11 Don Valley North Toyota Scion Toyota for Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE) qualified on the pole for the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 presented by G-Clean. This was Moffitt’s ninth career pole award, his third from Greenville Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC, and his first pole of the 2013 season. Moffitt also claimed a solid 5th place finish, bringing his driver statistics to 36 top-ten finishes out of 49 career starts.

Running on the flat asphalt of Greenville required significant changes in set up after the high banks of Bristol, where the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East ran the previous race. The #11 HRE team had prepared a great car, and they brought it to the track ready to race. Moffitt was fast in both practice sessions. The #11 HRE Toyota Camry finished the first practice session in third place, and Moffitt had the fastest car on the track during the final practice of the day, outpacing the rest of the field by .098 seconds. “The car is right where we need to be for qualifying,” said Moffitt as the final practice wound down. Qualifying results later confirmed Moffitt’s comments.

Grimes, IA – Brett Moffitt, who was only a half mile away from winning the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East crown one year ago, captured another podium finish in the 2013 season opener at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN.

Bristol is billed as “The World’s Fastest Half Mile”, and the first race of the season attracted more than a full field of cars. 40 entries vied for the 36 starting positions when the teams lined up to qualify for the DRIVE4COPD 125. The first 32 positions were determined by two-lap time trials, 4 cars were added to the field through provisionals, and the 4 teams that failed to qualify went home. The Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE) Toyota Camry was clocked 9th fastest in the final practice session, but Moffitt managed to lay down a qualifying lap of 16.022 seconds (119.760 mph) to put the NRC/Nisco Toyota on the outside of the 3rd row for Saturday night’s race. BRAD KESELOWSKI POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE — BRAD, OBVIOUSLY LIKE YOU SAID OUT ON PIT ROAD, IT’S NOT WHAT YOU WANTED TO GET, THE WIN, BUT A SOLID AFTERNOON NONETHELESS. “Yeah, well, it’s the third race and third points race of the Cup season. I feel like we’ve had a shot at winning all three. That’s something to be really proud of. We certainly had the speed to do it the last two weeks, and the execution to do it at Daytona, just caught a bad break and just didn’t quite execute it here today, but we’re really close, and I’m really proud of that effort. I want to win really bad, but I guess the consolation is starting out the year with three solid finishes and a top 5 and just kind of backing up where we finished last year with solid runs. For that I’m proud, proud of the effort today to recover from a couple mishaps. Certainly we didn’t give up there at the end. I thought I might have had a shot. Kasey and Kenseth, who won the race – if I could have got by Kyle I would have loved to have gone up there and put a little pressure on him and see if he would have given me a shot, but that opportunity didn’t come up unfortunately. But still, like I said, solid day, great effort, and we’re off to a really solid start, really the best start of my career by far.” Read Full Article →

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS – WINNER OF THE 55TH DAYTONA 500

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME YOU’VE WON THE DAYTONA 500, BUT IT’S BEEN A BIT OF A DROUGHT SINCE 2006.

“It has. Plate racing is awfully tough racing form of racing and there’s a lot of luck involved. Pack racing is a little different. You can’t ride and kind of wait for things to happen. You have to race all day long and fight for track position. And this race car, this Lowe’s Chevrolet, was so good. Chad Knaus and all of Hendrick Motorsports gave me a fast car and I could really stay up front all day long. I had a lot of confidence those final few laps leading the train because I knew just how fast this car was. It’s a big credit for everybody at Hendrick Motorsports.”

IT SEEMS LIKE YOU HAD A SPECIFIC GAME PLAN FROM THE MOMENT YOU UNPACKED HERE IN DAYTONA

“We did. We wanted to get this car to the 500. We knew it was the best car for us and I’m very happy to have it in the 500 and it certainly did its job for us. I just want to give a big shout-out to all the fans and I also want to send my thoughts and prayers out to everybody yesterday that were injured in the grandstands. Go to Lowe’s. Buy some stuff. Spring is coming. Go buy a Chevrolet. I’m very happy to win the first Gen-6 car race by racing the Gen-6 car for Chevrolet and their Chevrolet SS. It’s been an awesome day.” Read Full Article →

Cameron Hayley won the inaugural NASCAR K&N Pro Series portion of the UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona International Speedway (FL). Hayley took the lead when Gray Gaulding, who led after spinning Michael Self from the top spot in turns one and two, slid up the track in turn three and allowed Hayley a path to victory.

Green-White-Checkered Finish Wraps Up Exciting Trio of Short-Track Clashes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Cameron Hayley came from behind during a green-white-checkered finish to win the inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach NASCAR K&N Pro Series race Tuesday night at Daytona International Speedway.

It was only fitting that the third and final race of the two-day event concluded with cars trading paint, given that the first two races ended with last-lap contact and late lead changes.

Hayley took advantage when the race leaders tangled in Turn 2 to drive to the victory.

Fifteen-year-old Gray Gaulding finished second in the Krispy Kreme Toyota, while Puerto Rican Bryan Ortiz took the third spot in the Putinka Vodka Toyota.
