Armed Forces Day, which was created in 1949 and celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May, was an initiative led by President Harry S. Truman to establish a single holiday for citizens to pay tribute to the men and women who served in the United States’ armed forces.

Kyle Busch and Monster Energy Team 1st at Darlington

Five-Time Nationwide Series Winners Tame the ‘Lady’

 

Kyle Busch and the No. 54 Monster Energy team won Friday night’s VFW Sports Clip 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. The victory was Busch’s 56th in 252 series starts and the team’s fifth series win and seventh top-10 finish in nine starts this season. Busch accomplished the win from the pole position, the last driver to accomplish the feat, previously doing it in 2011.

 

For the second time this year, the No. 54 team accomplished a victory from the pole-qualifying position, previously mastered at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA and now Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. Busch started from the pole in Darlington and led the field four times for 107 of the 147-lap event.

Kurt Busch Captures Pole in Darlington;

Furniture Row Racing Driver Sets Track Record

DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 10, 2013) — Kurt Busch blistered the daunting Darlington Raceway oval Friday, setting a track record en route to claiming the No. 1 starting position for Saturday night’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 Sprint Cup Series race. 
In Friday’s time trials at the 1.366-mile, egg-shaped oval, Busch’s No. 78 Furniture Row/Serta Chevrolet SS posted a lap time and speed of 27.032 seconds at 181.918 miles per hour.  The previous lap record of 181.254 mph was set by Kasey Kahne in 2011.  
It was the 16th career pole for Busch, who won his first career pole at Darlington in September 2001. It was also the second career pole for Furniture Row Racing. The last time the Denver-based team took the No. 1 qualifying spot was in May 2008 at Talladega Superspeedway with driver Joe Nemechek.  Read Full Article →

NASCAR CHAMP KURT BUSCH COMPLETES INDIANAPOLIS 500 ROOKIE TEST

INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, May 9, 2013 – NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kurt Busch completed the Indianapolis 500 Rookie Orientation Program during a test Thursday, May 9 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, reaching a top speed of 218.210 mph in an Andretti Autosport car.

But Busch is still taking a cautious approach toward any thoughts of participating in “The Double” of racing in the 97th Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 26.
