Kyle Busch / No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Team Preview

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 12, 2013) – Last year at this time Kyle Busch brought his newly formed Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) team to attempt the famous Tennessee short track for the first time. While the owner-driver was a master of the .533-mile short track, their race together was a difficult one. It started with a top-10 qualifying run, followed quickly by a first-place position and the lead for 40 laps, until a pit stop miscue and then a late-race blown tire, forced the team to record a 17th-place finish.

Busch will again travel to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (BMS) for his 18th attempt at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” with high hopes of giving his recently aligned Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) Nationwide Series team a second taste of victory in the No. 54 Monster Energy machine. The young group recently earned their first win together in week two of the 2013 season at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway. Read Full Article →

The Last Great Colosseum

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 12, 2013) – Built out of concrete and stone, the Roman Colosseum still stands today in the Italian center of Rome as a major tourist attraction visited annually by millions from around the world.

Completed in 80 AD, the amphitheatre seated 50,000 spectators and was used for gladiator contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, and re-enactments of famous battles based on Roman mythology. The Roman Colosseum was considered by many as one of the greatest feats of Roman architecture and engineering.

Built in 1961, the .533-mile Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway is nestled in the hills of East Tennessee and originally seated around 18,000. Over the years, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers have fought their own battles on the half-mile bullring and Bristol quickly gained popularity – and seating capacity – as one of the premier stops on the circuit. Tony Stewart NASCARStewart Vies For Lead Before Tangling with Kenseth in Night Race at Bristol

The revamped Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, where the banking in the upper groove of the racetrack was reduced to the same degree as the middle of the track surface, gave the .533-mile concrete bullring its luster of yesteryear with plenty of bent sheet metal that left plenty of drivers bent with one another.

Count Tony Stewart among them, as the driver of the No. 14 Mobil 1/Office Depot Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) finished 27th in the Irwin Tools Night Race after tangling with Matt Kenseth for the lead on lap 333.

Stewart was none too pleased with Kenseth’s driving tactics, and the 14-year NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran showed his displeasure to Kenseth when after climbing from his battered racecar, he threw his helmet at Kenseth. Stewart was as precise with his throw as he was with his words afterward, as the helmet struck Kenseth’s Ford square in the nose.
